- An important part of the Department's research
thrust is in the area of nano-sciences. This is true for
experimental as well as theoretical studies. Electronic
structure of novel and complex materials: including bulk
compounds, alloys, surfaces and clusters forms an
integral part of the Department's theoretical research.
- Studies in magnetism and superconductivity also
form particular interest areas of the researchers in
this Department.
- There is considerable overlap of interest with
the Department of Chemical, Biological and
macro-molecular sciences and there is collaborative
research between members of the two Departments.
- The department in collaboration with the
Department of Chemical, Biological and macro-molecular
sciences is setting up computational facilities for an
Advanced Materials Research Unit.
